Dolly Parton | Famous Women Dinner Plate
LILIAN MAY | Hand-painted by Will Dowden
No. 1 in a series of nine celebrated women
Inspired by the original Famous Women Dinner Service created by Bloomsbury artists Vanessa Bell and Duncan Grant, this hand-painted ceramic plate celebrates the incomparable Dolly Parton.
The first in a collection of nine remarkable women, each plate pays tribute to a female figure whose creativity, individuality and cultural influence have left a lasting impression.
Painted by artist Will Dowden for LILIAN MAY, Dolly's portrait is executed by hand using traditional in-glaze ceramic painting techniques on an original Wedgwood Queen's Ware dinner plate, echoing the material and artistic spirit of the historic Bloomsbury service.
Playful, expressive and unapologetically individual, the work brings together the decorative traditions of the Bloomsbury artists and a contemporary celebration of female achievement.
A Limited Series
The LILIAN MAY Famous Women Dinner Plate Collection will comprise nine different women, with just four hand-painted plates created for each subject.
Only three examples of each woman will be available to purchase. The fourth will be retained permanently in the LILIAN MAY Archive, forming part of the complete nine-plate archival collection.
Each plate is individually hand-painted by Will Dowden, with subtle variations that make every example unique.
